"Family" … If there is one word I would use to describe our Georgia Rehabilitation Association (GRA), that would be my choice.  We are a family of caring individuals who make a positive difference in the lives of persons with disabilities everyday.  We help one another, celebrate with one another, and mourn for one another when we lose a family member.  I would like to take a moment to remember John Staufenberg, who served as the 2007 GRA Secretary.  John was a very dedicated member of our association. He loved life and always had a smile on his face.

We will remember John and our other GRA family members at our Annual Training Conference that will be held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA from September 16th – 19th 2008.  I encourage each of you to attend this event and enjoy outstanding training and networking opportunities.  However, before that, we have an opportunity to talk with our national political leaders about disability issues at the National Rehabilitation Association (NRA) Legislative Affairs Summit that will be held in Washington D.C. in March.  Combined with our GRA Legislative Seminar (please see the great pictures and a summary of this event in the winter newsletter and on our website), this allows us all to come together as a family to advocate for and with persons with disabilities.

Whether you are involved in private or public rehabilitation, GRA is your professional organization and the place to join with your fellow rehabilitation professionals in advocacy and service.  For those of you who are new to GRA, I encourage you to get involved.  Attend your local chapter meetings and GRA state board meetings, volunteer to serve on a committee or help organize the training conference.  I look forward to working with you all and serving as your president this year.  It is very humbling to know of all the dedicated leaders that have served previously and I will try my best to make sure that our association continues to be recognized as the leading state chapter in NRA.  If I may be of any service to you, or if you have any ideas to continue to improve our organization, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
Jason Williams
